Venture out to camp wild with us in beautiful unspoilt locations across Dartmoor & South Devon. If its possible, we can create it – we have even curated a series of wild experiences for a real princess!
Wild camping in Devon, like in most of England, operates under strict rules, as it’s generally not legal without landowner permission. However, there are areas where wild camping is tolerated or where you can find a true wilderness experience, in particular on Dartmoor which is an area we are very familiar with.
It is worth keeping abreast of the latest rules and guidance. Some helpful website sites for advice include Dartmoor National Park which includes a useful interactive camping map. Also Countryfile includes a beginner’s guide to wild camping.
WildWise has been leading bushcraft and survival events and courses on and around Dartmoor and South Devon for over 25 years. We know the terrain and its stunning woods, valleys and vistas. We have our own beautiful riverside meadow in the Dart Valley on Dartmoor from where we lead treks out on to the moor. We also host events at other private locations in South Devon and along the coast.
If you would like to explore options for wild camps with us you can choose your base: on the moor, on the river, by the sea or in the woods! From there we’ll help you create a blend of adventure, learning, exploration, discovery and excitement!
It can include: survival skills; food foraging & cooking; firecraft; woodcraft; canoeing; plus wildlife tracking & nature awareness with storytelling by firelight … your imagination is your only limitation (and we’ll help you break through that!).
We have created camps for kids and camps for adults; from a few hours to nights and days; with both external and internal discovery; to relax and to stretch you.
We have a range of experienced and enthusiastic leaders we can call upon to lead your event. This will be discussed with you in advance and a name confirmed once we know your date requirements and can match that with a leader’s availability.
Timings for private events can be adjusted and agreed around your requirements.
If your event involves paddling on the estuary tides will generally inform start and return times.
We can discuss kit requirements depending on your chosen programme.
Generally for overnight camps you are asked to bring:
