Wild Nights Out is an enchanting late-summer 2 night family camp experience, nestled in the beautiful wilds of Dartmoor in Devon.
Who is it for?
Designed for families seeking a memorable adventure, this two-night escape invites you to unplug, reconnect, and immerse yourselves in nature’s rhythms. Under the guidance of experienced leaders, you’ll explore the woods, learn survival skills, share stories by the campfire, and discover a world of nocturnal wonders on night-time nature walks.
We welcome children of all ages to the camp however be aware that most of the skills activities will primarily be aimed at children of 6+ years. Younger children may still welcome to join in with parental supervision depending on the activity. We will adapt the programme where it is practical and safe to do so to make it as inclusive as possible.
What will we be doing?
This camp blends education and adventure, offering hands-on activities like bushcraft, wild cooking, stargazing, and storytelling that foster curiosity and deepen family bonds. With a balance of structured workshops and free time to explore and play, Wild Nights Out is perfect for families looking to unwind and create lasting memories under the summer stars.

About the venue
The event takes place at our wild meadow riverside site near Newbridge on Dartmoor. Being in a beautiful wild place, and off grid, on Dartmoor means there is no permanent infrastructure, electricity or running water. Structures are erected for the event and facilities are relatively basic. We provide shelter, kitchen, activity & toilet tents plus cold and hot water for drinking and washing. There are also permanent toilet facilities a few minutes away at Newbridge car park.

Tom Wigston – Tom has spent over 25 years working in the outdoor and environmental education sector, enabling people of all ages to access the benefits that experiences in nature have to offer. Tom first trained as an Environmental Educator in North America and developed his skills as a facilitator and trainer through working for organisations back in the UK. Tom spent several years in a senior role with the Devon County Council Outdoor Service developing outdoor programmes, managing outdoor centres, and delivering training. He is a qualified teacher, Forest School leader and Bushcraft Instructor and carries several other outdoor leadership qualifications and accreditation. Tom has recently completed a master’s degree in education, pursuing his keen interest in the academic and philosophical exploration of outdoor learning and human-environment relationships.
Chris Salisbury: Chris founded WildWise in 1999 after many years working as an education officer for Devon Wildlife Trust. With a background in the theatre, a training in therapy and a career in environmental education he uses every creative means at his disposal to encourage people to enjoy and value the natural world. He has worked with Ray Mears and John Rhyder, Joseph Cornell and Steve van Metre, amongst many others. He is also a professional storyteller aka ‘Spindle Wayfarer’.
Full details including timings will be confirmed on booking. However generally our 2 night camps start with arrival from 5pm on day 1, formal start with supper at 7pm through to around 4pm on day 3

We recommend you bring snacks, any luxury foods you fancy plus food for any special diets.
