Our Art of Tracking event offers adults and older children a gentle introduction to animal tracking. We will introduce the basics of tracking, what signs to look for, how to look and where, and we will be roving the wild woods of the Dartington estate at a leisurely pace to put the theory to the test by tracking a range of animals by the signs they leave behind. We are likely to find signs of deer, badger, fox, rabbits, mice and voles, and maybe some insects. The session will progress to look in more detail at deciphering more information about the events that take place by reading the land.
Participants do not need to be particularly fit as the pace will be gentle however participants will be on their feet most of the day and there will be some walking on uneven ground and so reasonable mobility is required.
We will provide: guidebooks for identification purposes, a tracking checklist and a hand lens.
Participants should wear: warm & waterproof clothing suitable for all weathers and sturdy footwear
Participants should bring: A notepad & pen (or a camera for reminders); a packed lunch & drink; a sit mat (optional)
