RETURN TO ALL EVENTS

The Dart river valley is bursting with life and vitality, its beauty unspoiled and waters unpolluted.

The Nightpaddle is an evening spent meandering gently up the river giving you the opportunity to sink into the exquisite scenery and the rhythm of the river.

Carrying everything we need in the canoes, we will journey for several miles. The pace is relaxed, and there will be plenty of time to spend around the campfire, or to swim, play, and enjoy a delicious communal meal in the company of the storyteller, Spindle Wayfarer! The return journey is a magical experience of the river at night.

We provide canoes, equipment, life jackets and teach all the necessary skills. Also included in the cost is a simple campfire supper. NB. No previous experience of canoeing is necessary, although participants must be able to swim.

Event Leaders:

Chris Salisbury: Chris founded WildWise after many years working as an education officer for Devon Wildlife Trust. With a background in the theatre, a training in therapy and a career in environmental education he uses every creative means at his disposal to encourage people to enjoy and value the natural world. He has worked with Ray Mears and John Rhyder, amongst many others.

Sam Kouzarides: Sam was home educated throughout his childhood and spent most of his time exploring and learning in nature. After studying Conservation Sam worked as a ranger for the National Trust where he developed his passion for outdoor education work. Supported and inspired by training in the Art Of Mentoring with the 8 Shields Institute, and WildWise ’s Outdoor Leadership Foundation (years 1 and 2), Sam’s work includes teaching at Acorns Learning, nature connection mentoring, running bushcraft and nature connection events; conservation work and tree surgery. Sam works with a healthy combination of playful energy and a relaxed and easy manner and likes nothing more than a good adventure.

Mark Sears: Mark joined us in the office and in the woods in 2018 following 3 1/2 years growing The Wild Network from a film led movement to a thriving community of people seeking to rewild childhood. Mark brings with him many years of experience from the creative industries and he now works on projects that lead to the rewilding of people, organisations and communities. Mark was one of the first cohort of 'Wolves' on the Call of the Wild programme and is now exploring ways for WildWise to develop new programmes around organisational rewilding and how we might scale the impacts of our youth mentoring and training programmes. As well as the office you are most likely to find Mark on, or in the River Dart and exploring the wild land of Dartmoor.

Cancellations: The paddle will go ahead come rain or shine. Sorry no refunds or transfers if you are unable to attend (for cancellations of <28 days).  Please see our terms & conditions for further information.
